My suspicion is that it’s more of a “Don’t de-sexualise the Autistic person”. Given that the whole Dina/Becky thing started with Dina getting pissed at people infantalising her, I suspect there is still a significant part of her that demands people recognise her as an adult with romantic and sexual agency.

Well, “I’m into women, and also into nonbinary people but only if they have ovaries” isn’t… great. It fits into a general tendency that some people have to treat nonbinary people, particularly nonbinary AFAB people, as Womon Lyte instead of a separate gender. And defining attraction around what genitals someone has is a TERF thing.
(Note that attraction and preferences can be different, i.e. you might have someone who finds all genders attractive, but only likes to have sex with partners who have vaginas, regardless of the gender of said partners. “I prefer to have sex with people who have vaginas” is different from “I’m attracted to women, and to nonbinary people who I consider basically women”. One is entirely reasonable, one is someone who needs to reexamine how they see nonbinary people.)
I think the whole trend of trying to label and pigeon-hole everything to the smallest detail is decidedly unproductive and unhealthy. Far better to simply recognize that people are all unique, and that there’s nothing wrong with that.
Here’s the problem: without detailed labels for the human experience, the power differential flows by default to the majority of any axis/trait, and those disadvantaged have no power to call it out.
So it’s all very well to WANT to “just let people be people”… but if you want that, in the world we actually live in, with its systemic oppression and pre-prepared prejudice, people need to be able to use labels so they can point out when their type of human is being oppressed and mistreated.
My point is that pigeon-holing 1) creates an in-group/out-group dynamic and 2) gives the illusion of discrete categories for what is, by all serious research and the stated experience of countless people, a (range of) continuum(s).
You’re not wrong in a way, though Kelibath also isn’t wrong that labels can also be used to defend oppressed groups.
But, in this case, “sapphic” is a more generic term that clearly applies to Dina, while “lesbian” is a more discrete term that arguably does not. Just because lesbian is a more familiar term, doesn’t mean sapphic is an attempt to pigeon-hole anyone.
I believe the issue is not with the word “sapphic”, but with a definition of lesbian that specifically names and excludes “nonbinary AMAB people”.
Sapphic generally means “likes girls”. Lesbian historically also meant “likes girls”, and is still used that way, but is now commonly used to mean “likes girls *exclusively*”. Whether you want to call yourself sapphic, lesbian, or both is a personal choice. But when you start defining *either* term according to a person’s AGAB, *that* is TERFy, because it implies that someone’s AGAB is their “real” gender for purposes of defining sexual attraction. In particular, specifying nonbinary AMAB people as “not girls” in an “attracted to girls exclusively” definition implies that you think AFAB nonbinary people are still girls.
If you’re attracted to nonbinary people (whose gender does not include “girl” in some fashion), regardless of their AGAB, you’re attracted to people who are not girls. What you choose to *do* with that fact is up to you, but it is a fact.
(As a personal aside: I’m AFAB nonbinary. I’ve been on T for five years, and I’ve had top surgery. I find the ability to grow a full beard now absolutely delightful, even if I don’t always want one. I promise you would not look at me on the street and go “ah, yes, that is An Woman What Is Attractive To Lesbeans”.)
Yes, this, exactly. sapphic is a perfectly fine term, with a long history. it’s the attempt to redefine “lesbian” to exclude bisexual women and nonbinary or trans lesbians that’s a bit dodgy. That redefinition to exclude is the terfy part.
Why is all our language for this stuff so relative? It’s always felt bonkers to me that we lump all this stuff under one umbrella and then changing the terms we use for it based on the gender of the person feeling things rather than outlining it like a set of spectrums.
You can be attracted to some set of genitals and bodies.
You can be attracted to some set of gender presentations.
You can be attracted to a personality such that the above two are irrelevant.
Feels like this person is attracted to x body and genital types regardless of gender presentation and this person is attracted to y gender presentation regardless of body and genital types both get termed similarly under the same framework, causing a lot of confusion. And then the words you use change again if the person feeling the attraction turns out to be trans at some point. Like why does you transitioning change the language everyone uses for your attraction when that hasn’t actually changed?
I dunno man, the language seems so arbitrary I don’t really get the point of gate keeping any of it or trying to get too detailed in describing what it means. If you’re a non-binary person attracted to non-binary people with female genitals and you want to call yourself a lesbian just do it. If you’re a woman and happy to date any configuration of person but happen to be in a relationship with a woman right now and want to call yourself a lesbian, just do it. For any of this stuff to be worth trying to gatekeep it would have to mean anything clear and specific in the first place and it just doesn’t. It’s all way wigglier than the internet discourse broadly wants to look at it as being. It’s all for anyone who it resonates with, and it’s more generally agreed upon set of themes than anything else.
I never heard or seen anyone say that the term lesbian excludes amab non binary people, it can exclude some, but that’s based on personal attraction and not whether or not the person is an amab enby

Lesbian doesn’t mean women exclusively attracted to women. That definition was imposed externally and has never described lesbianism as defined in the community. Bi is historically a kind of lesbian and was used that way.
The findamental issue here is people who learned first that “lesbian means women exclusively attracted to women” refusing to be educated….and radfems who push that line as a political point.
What I’m getting from this discussion (with the caveat that, being aroace, I inherently struggle with understanding this stuff) is that some people use the term “lesbian” to refer to women (and maybe AFAB enbies) who are attracted to other women and AFAB enbies, but not men or AMAB enbies, meaning they’re implicitly regarding AFAB enbies as distinctly more woman-like than AMAB enbies.
This. They’re thus erasing the nonbinary identities involved while doing so. Reducing an entire spectrum of different gender identities and presentations back to an effective binary again, of “people who I assume are safe” and “people I assume are dangerous”, based either on AGAB for biological essentialists or on gender presentation for those who are open to the idea of transition but still unaware of the true diversities involved. Assuming anyone presenting even mildly femme is on the female side of a thin dividing line by default. When the spectrum of gender – like most spectra – is more of a three or four dimensional combination of a bunch of different axes and people can be anywhere, multiply often, along them or even move fluidly between different points over time.
Unrelated to anything but recently, apropos of nothing I looked up to see that the male equivalent of “Sapphic” is “Achillean” and I wanna hear that used way more, it sounds rad as hell.
I once saw someone freak out on the writer of Hades in the SGG Discord because “Achilles wasn’t gay, he was in love with a woman.” I’m for more usage of “Achillean”.

Yeah, I feel like “psychotic break” here is just how someone with burnout and depression would interprete their burnout and depression. I spent weeks convinced my brain was fundamentally broken and couldn’t do anything, before learning no, I had anxiety issues and a problem with numbers and that was about it.

I think if Walky and Amber were completely different characters, the idea of ‘two exes spending time together, with one of them wearing a shirt and underwear’ would seem a little like cheating of some kind, but I feel like Amber and Walky, despite their previous situationship and clear chemistry… I agree, I don’t really view this as cheating.
I rather think that this is a slow burn to the eventual crumbling of the Lucy/Walky ship, very likely through Amber’s and Walky’s choices…
Walky was definitely encouraged by his dad to pursue Amber, and the interactions between Walky & Amber have contrasted on several occasions with the interactions between Walky & Lucy… this might yet border on cheating.
I think emotional cheating requires a pattern, and this is like the second step in forming a pattern. It’s not exactly there yet, but the shape of it is already recognizable.
The drama is real in Dorothy’s head. It doesn’t need to make sense to anyone but her. She saw them and literally said to herself “What the actual fuck”. Now she’s backing off, though not quite as much as she should.
Factor into the equation that the dinosaur smells noticeably of sex and that Dorothy has been feeling sexually frustrated. Also factor in that Dorothy is depressed, among other things, and might be skewed towards seeing anything in the worst possible way.
Walky is in a room with his ex girlfriend in his pajamas while she is in a shirt and underwear and has a girlfriend. If no one talked before reacting, it could be a whole fight.
If there’s a law against some activity, it’s because someone did it. If you have to loudly proclaim there’s not a racist bone in your body, you’re probably doing racism. If you have to state you’re not a mom friend, you might be one.
It reads perfectly logically to me. As in the proposed title is not for a book of comics, but rather a book on the topic of self-actualizing one’s own animal appeal.
Also don’t forget the whole thing back when she got together with Becky where everyone but Becky was infantalizing her and treating her as a sexless child not someone who’s just as much an adult and capable of sexual/romantic feelings and consent as the rest of the cast.
Amber being singled out when Dina is also in the room with Walky in her underwear probably feels like a continuation of that to her.
Walky and Amber had a fling together though (and just yesterday pretended to be dating to his parents and Amber voiced her attraction directly to him), and Dina is demonstrably not interested in Walky. While I applaud Dina asserting herself, there’s a big difference between her and Amber being pantsless around Walky.
i don’t think walky would be interested (“i am also in my pajamas” “this doesn’t register as interesting to me” or so when walky/amber were first starting to have fun with each other) tho it would be interesting to see him react to a flirting

I don’t think one having more or less cushion than the other necessarily/automatically has anything with being prettier, though there are plenty of opinions on whether or not someone would be better looking with a change in weight.
But speaking as someone who, over the last decade, lost about 100 pounds, I can definitely say I miss being able to sit without worrying about my butt hurting due to the loss of butt fat.

Funnily enough, of the three people hanging out in the room right now I feel like Dina was the first one to connect the current situation to anything sexual.
I think the best way of looking at the current situation with Walky and Amber is that its a pile of oily rags resting on top of a decade-old pile of newspapers.

I am sick of people making these excuses for Walky.
The entire friend group knows that he used to hook up with Amber. He brought her instead of his actual girlfriend to have dinner with his parents YESTERDAY. And YESTERDAY Amber admitted to still having feelings for him. And now today, instead of hanging out with Lucy (or even just explaining why he needed time to himself), he sought out Amber to hang out pantsless in her room.
Dorothy may have selfish, personal reasons to be particularly pissy about this, but it is absolutely already a bonehead move by Walky and could definitely cause grief for Lucy if she found out.
Also, every time he says that he “likes Lucy” I don’t notice sincerity in his words.
I clarify that I am not a fan of Lucy, but if the day comes when I finally open my eyes and see what Walky looks like, that will hurt a lot.
I absolutely agree that Walky’s enthusiasm for Lucy has been lacking the entire time. I think they’d make great friends, but I don’t think they’re a good match and I don’t think they’re in the same chapter, much less the same page on what they are to each other and what they want out of this relationship.
Even though that kind of mismatch can end up working out, he’d have to communicate with her. To his partial credit, he did ask for advice on how to handle his situation. But only from one person, and it was Dorothy, and it became pretty apparent her advice was skewed by her own feelings.
As to Dorothy’s reasons, the most interesting thing to me about today’s comments is that she hasn’t actually articulated them but a bunch of people are absolutely positive what they are.
It’s absolutely possible that her reasons are “Why her and not me?” but it’s also possible that she recognized that Walky was right and is upset that he’s not living up to the standard they both have for him, which is being a good boyfriend.
I’d like to think it’s the latter, but I can’t be nearly as sure as several people seem to be that it’s the former.
The truth is that it took me by surprise that Dorothy would see Walky again, to the point of thinking that she would avoid him after the rejection. I’ll be honest, I loved Walky x Dorothy and I was hoping that maybe they could get back together, but after Raidah’s poison and the way he rejected the blonde in a single day, my hopes fell. but that whim has not gone away and at least I would like there to be no hate involved, I know that Dorothy has not done things well, but I hope that everything gets better for her, and that Sarah gives Raidah another blow
I think Dorothy is feeling her world fall apart around her and is grasping for what she has the happiest feelings for, which is what she had with Walky.
And it’s more painful for her when she is honest that maybe being president wasn’t her thing and Walky only told her that it would be fine for tomorrow, yes, it seemed like it was just something that Dorothy would easily forget, but the way he told her was very despicable and flaunting his “loyalty” to lucy
I think Walky was trying to express his faith in her in what he perceived was fleeting doubt. He was definitely wrong and caused her pain, but I have a hard time calling it despicable. I also wouldn’t say he was flaunting his loyalty to Lucy, I think him trying to act in a way that lives up to the idea of being a good boyfriend is just about all that’s keeping him and Lucy together right now. And unfortunately living up to that idea required him to reject Dorothy, even though I suspect the idea he’s trying to live up to is highly informed by the way Dorothy sees him.
Basically I think Walky and Dorothy would each very much like to be with each other, but the choices that have been made up to this point (by each of them) make that very much impossible at the moment. It’s very sad to me.
Wow. It’s nice to see consideration with the blonde, I’ve only seen in every comment I hate bringing hate, and as I said before the affection is not completely gone, I’m not saying that they’re coming back now, but that there is a healthy interaction, dreaming is free
I try to have compassion for as much of the cast as I can, especially the ones who have been shown to have reasons for their dysfunctions. (I think I fail the most with Jennifer, she pushes all of my buttons and not in a good way.) I take periodic breaks from even letting myself acknowledge that the comments section exists because of how vitriolic some folks are towards these characters who are trying their best and failing left and right which makes the entertainment we all come here for. And then sometimes I end those breaks and dive in headfirst and leave 20+ comments. Like tonight.

The theory was Lucy’s idea, it was Walky who chose Amber for the role. And I agree that he didn’t seek this result out, but he also decided that hanging out with his ex while she was in her underwear was the option to go with. He absolutely had the opportunity to decide that it was inappropriate and pass on the Switch. That wouldn’t have been in character for him, but it probably would have been the better decision. I’d be surprised if Lucy didn’t think this situation was inappropriate.
Honestly, the last time Walky and Amber were into each other they couldn’t be in each other’s vicinity without the urge to hump so I’d say the fact that they can just chill and eat food/play vidya without sex even really coming across for them does lend itself to a more platonic view of their relationship.
Doing the kinds of things Walky and Lucy did when Walky didn’t know they were almost dating. The kind of things that Walky has said at least twice where what he was looking for in a relationship. Except Walky feels more comfortable with Amber than with Lucy.
Walky might be ok with polyamory, it’s hard to tell because almost everything he says is couched in some dumbass joke. But Lucy is not. And even if she were, that’s something they should talk about first.
She’s not attracted to amber so it’d be fine for her to visit while in pajamas, i suppose (although personally i’d get dressed a little bit more if i was visiting someone i wasn’t particularly close to even in a dorm room, tho unless those are like ‘boyshorts’ panties, the shorts she’s wearing on in this art style looks like something that could be worn ‘publicly’ but maybe im just used to ppl around here showing off alot of skin)

Dina is engaged in her own separate activity while Walky and Amber are engaged in two shared activities (MarioKart and eating from the same nachitos bag at the same time). There is a difference there, yes.
As for what Dorothy has seen, like I said it’s hard to say for sure, but I think it’s highly likely she was aware that Amber and Walky were doing some kind of relation-thing. (I guess to clarify yes I do mean other than friendship) Neither Walky nor Amber are known for their subtlety and Amber and Dorothy are very direct neighbors. We don’t have absolute proof of knowledge, but that’s far from proof of no knowledge.

I think “the room smells like sex” is taking it a little far. Walky didn’t say anything until he was right up on the plush, and even then he only said “kinda”. It was never mentioned in-comic that the entire room smelled that way, the comments are just acting up.
Someone needs to explain to me what an Honors student is.
Honours students at my university (in Australia) are doing the 4th year of what would otherwise be a 3-year Bachelor degree. I was planning to do Latin Honours, but for life reasons, I didn’t end up doing a fourth year, and graduated with an ordinary Bachelor of Arts.
So what does this first-year student mean when she describes herself as a “former Honors student”? It’s obviously not what I would mean!

“Higher level education” is not exactly the words you used, but is what we in the US would typically say to generally mean “any education after high school”

Admittedly it can be hard to tell from the outside. In “And Then I Thought I Was a Fish”, Peter Welch describes his protracted psychotic break – weeks where he was convinced he was on a Secret Mission to save humanity. Since it was a Secret, he didn’t tell anyone about this. And because there were Others who would try to stop him, he had to behave as normally as possible.
But we haven’t seen any evidence when Dorothy is talking to herself that she’s thinking anything like that.
saunas are unfortunately not a common facility in my part of the world, but my best friend lives in japan, and we went to an onsen together with her boyfriend, who I met in person for the first time for that visit

Well, “I’m into women, and also into nonbinary people but only if they have ovaries” isn’t… great. It fits into a general tendency that some people have to treat nonbinary people, particularly nonbinary AFAB people, as Womon Lyte instead of a separate gender. And defining attraction around what genitals someone has is a TERF thing.
(Note that attraction and preferences can be different, i.e. you might have someone who finds all genders attractive, but only likes to have sex with partners who have vaginas, regardless of the gender of said partners. “I prefer to have sex with people who have vaginas” is different from “I’m attracted to women, and to nonbinary people who I consider basically women”. One is entirely reasonable, one is someone who needs to reexamine how they see nonbinary people.)
This is why I don’t express attraction to anybody. It’s a fucking minefield.

Sapphic generally means “likes girls”. Lesbian historically also meant “likes girls”, and is still used that way, but is now commonly used to mean “likes girls *exclusively*”. Whether you want to call yourself sapphic, lesbian, or both is a personal choice. But when you start defining *either* term according to a person’s AGAB, *that* is TERFy, because it implies that someone’s AGAB is their “real” gender for purposes of defining sexual attraction. In particular, specifying nonbinary AMAB people as “not girls” in an “attracted to girls exclusively” definition implies that you think AFAB nonbinary people are still girls.
If you’re attracted to nonbinary people (whose gender does not include “girl” in some fashion), regardless of their AGAB, you’re attracted to people who are not girls. What you choose to *do* with that fact is up to you, but it is a fact.
(As a personal aside: I’m AFAB nonbinary. I’ve been on T for five years, and I’ve had top surgery. I find the ability to grow a full beard now absolutely delightful, even if I don’t always want one. Yes, this, exactly. sapphic is a perfectly fine term, with a long history. it’s the attempt to redefine “lesbian” to exclude bisexual women and nonbinary or trans lesbians that’s a bit dodgy. That redefinition to exclude is the terfy part.

And then the words you use change again if the person feeling the attraction turns out to be trans at some point. Like why does you transitioning change the language everyone uses for your attraction when that hasn’t actually changed?
I dunno man, the language seems so arbitrary I don’t really get the point of gate keeping any of it or trying to get too detailed in describing what it means. If you’re a non-binary person attracted to non-binary people with female genitals and you want to call yourself a lesbian just do it. If you’re a woman and happy to date any configuration of person but happen to be in a relationship with a woman right now and want to call yourself a lesbian, just do it. For any of this stuff to be worth trying to gatekeep it would have to mean anything clear and specific in the first place and it just doesn’t. It’s all way wigglier than the internet discourse broadly wants to look at it as being. It’s all for anyone who it resonates with, and it’s more generally agreed upon set of themes than anything else.

The findamental issue here is people who learned first that “lesbian means women exclusively attracted to women” refusing to be educated….and radfems who push that line as a political point.
What I’m getting from this discussion (with the caveat that, being aroace, I inherently struggle with understanding this stuff) is that some people use the term “lesbian” to refer to women (and maybe AFAB enbies) who are attracted to other women and AFAB enbies, but not men or AMAB enbies, meaning they’re implicitly regarding AFAB enbies as distinctly more woman-like than AMAB enbies.

I am sick of people making these excuses for Walky.
The entire friend group knows that he used to hook up with Amber. He brought her instead of his actual girlfriend to have dinner with his parents YESTERDAY. And YESTERDAY Amber admitted to still having feelings for him. And now today, instead of hanging out with Lucy (or even just explaining why he needed time to himself), he sought out Amber to hang out pantsless in her room.
Dorothy may have selfish, personal reasons to be particularly pissy about this, but it is absolutely already a bonehead move by Walky and could definitely cause grief for Lucy if she found out.
Also, every time he says that he “likes Lucy” I don’t notice sincerity in his words.
I clarify that I am not a fan of Lucy, but if the day comes when I finally open my eyes and see what Walky looks like, that will hurt a lot.
I absolutely agree that Walky’s enthusiasm for Lucy has been lacking the entire time. I think they’d make great friends, but I don’t think they’re a good match and I don’t think they’re in the same chapter, much less the same page on what they are to each other and what they want out of this relationship.

Even though that kind of mismatch can end up working out, he’d have to communicate with her. To his partial credit, he did ask for advice on how to handle his situation. But only from one person, and it was Dorothy, and it became pretty apparent her advice was skewed by her own feelings.
As to Dorothy’s reasons, the most interesting thing to me about today’s comments is that she hasn’t actually articulated them but a bunch of people are absolutely positive what they are.
It’s absolutely possible that her reasons are “Why her and not me?” but it’s also possible that she recognized that Walky was right and is upset that he’s not living up to the standard they both have for him, which is being a good boyfriend.
I’d like to think it’s the latter, but I can’t be nearly as sure as several people seem to be that it’s the former.
The truth is that it took me by surprise that Dorothy would see Walky again, to the point of thinking that she would avoid him after the rejection. I’ll be honest, I loved Walky x Dorothy and I was hoping that maybe they could get back together, but after Raidah’s poison and the way he rejected the blonde in a single day, my hopes fell. but that whim has not gone away and at least I would like there to be no hate involved, I know that Dorothy has not done things well, but I hope that everything gets better for her, and that Sarah gives Raidah another blow
I think Dorothy is feeling her world fall apart around her and is grasping for what she has the happiest feelings for, which is what she had with Walky.
And it’s more painful for her when she is honest that maybe being president wasn’t her thing and Walky only told her that it would be fine for tomorrow, yes, it seemed like it was just something that Dorothy would easily forget, but the way he told her was very despicable and flaunting his “loyalty” to lucy
I think Walky was trying to express his faith in her in what he perceived was fleeting doubt. He was definitely wrong and caused her pain, but I have a hard time calling it despicable. I also wouldn’t say he was flaunting his loyalty to Lucy, I think him trying to act in a way that lives up to the idea of being a good boyfriend is just about all that’s keeping him and Lucy together right now. And unfortunately living up to that idea required him to reject Dorothy, even though I suspect the idea he’s trying to live up to is highly informed by the way Dorothy sees him.
Basically I think Walky and Dorothy would each very much like to be with each other, but the choices that have been made up to this point (by each of them) make that very much impossible at the moment. It’s very sad to me.

I try to have compassion for as much of the cast as I can, especially the ones who have been shown to have reasons for their dysfunctions. (I think I fail the most with Jennifer, she pushes all of my buttons and not in a good way.) I take periodic breaks from even letting myself acknowledge that the comments section exists because of how vitriolic some folks are towards these characters who are trying their best and failing left and right which makes the entertainment we all come here for. And then sometimes I end those breaks and dive in headfirst and leave 20+ comments. Like tonight.

It’s good to see that I’m not the only one who notices the unfair hatred towards Dorothy, I love the character and I really hope things work out for her.
We also don’t know whether she understands that Walky apparently still has no clue that he’s fallen into a compromising situation and will be surprised when someone points it out.
Emotions can be complicated. She can have a “you’re not being a great boyfriend” layer, and a layer of “which is why you said you rejected me” underneath. She’s trying to be what she imagines “mature” is.
The dinner thing was Lucy’s idea, not Walky’s. Please remember that.

I don’t condone cheating. If Walky was crossing a line, I would rake him across the coals for it. I don’t think he’s in the wrong for salvaging a friendship with an ex and just chilling. Walky has spent a lot of time with Lucy.

The theory was Lucy’s idea, it was Walky who chose Amber for the role. And I agree that he didn’t seek this result out, but he also decided that hanging out with his ex while she was in her underwear was the option to go with. He absolutely had the opportunity to decide that it was inappropriate and pass on the Switch. That wouldn’t have been in character for him, but it probably would have been the better decision. I’d be surprised if Lucy didn’t think this situation was inappropriate.
Honestly, the last time Walky and Amber were into each other they couldn’t be in each other’s vicinity without the urge to hump so I’d say the fact that they can just chill and eat food/play vidya without sex even really coming across for them does lend itself to a more platonic view of their relationship.
I think the potential is definitely there, but this was a very poor way to go about exploring it.
Doing the kinds of things Walky and Lucy did when Walky didn’t know they were almost dating. The kind of things that Walky has said at least twice where what he was looking for in a relationship. Except Walky feels more comfortable with Amber than with Lucy.
Walky might be ok with polyamory, it’s hard to tell because almost everything he says is couched in some dumbass joke. But Lucy is not. And even if she were, that’s something they should talk about first.

Dina is engaged in her own separate activity while Walky and Amber are engaged in two shared activities (MarioKart and eating from the same nachitos bag at the same time). There is a difference there, yes.
As for what Dorothy has seen, like I said it’s hard to say for sure, but I think it’s highly likely she was aware that Amber and Walky were doing some kind of relation-thing. (I guess to clarify yes I do mean other than friendship) Neither Walky nor Amber are known for their subtlety and Amber and Dorothy are very direct neighbors. We don’t have absolute proof of knowledge, but that’s far from proof of no knowledge.
I very much understand what you’re “just saying”, but I don’t think the situation is nearly as conclusive as you’re making it out to be, certainly not to someone who just walked in at that moment and didn’t see it develop.

Honours students at my university (in Australia) are doing the 4th year of what would otherwise be a 3-year Bachelor degree. I was planning to do Latin Honours, but for life reasons, I didn’t end up doing a fourth year, and graduated with an ordinary Bachelor of Arts.
So what does this first-year student mean when she describes herself as a “former Honors student”? It’s obviously not what I would mean!

I’m very surprised Dorothy says she’s having a “protracted psychotic break”. Of those 3 words, only “break” applies.
Admittedly it can be hard to tell from the outside. In “And Then I Thought I Was a Fish”, Peter Welch describes his protracted psychotic break – weeks where he was convinced he was on a Secret Mission to save humanity. Since it was a Secret, he didn’t tell anyone about this. And because there were Others who would try to stop him, he had to behave as normally as possible.
But we haven’t seen any evidence when Dorothy is talking to herself that she’s thinking anything like that.

saunas are unfortunately not a common facility in my part of the world, but my best friend lives in japan, and we went to an onsen together with her boyfriend, who I met in person for the first time for that visit
it was a private onsen so there weren’t any strangers, but having a masc, fem, and enby all chilling out and just talking while we cleaned was pretty freeing. I definitely will feel more comfortable doing that with a wider range after the first experience went so well
