It’s like he’s trying to give us a Joyce avatar gallery for filling out our various crazy hyper-religious livejournal themes or something. Current Mood: Nonplussed.
That one’s getting old. Really old. It’s like totally, soo 2006. Which, if the archives can be believed, came right after the 80ies … um … were brought back. Yes.
Thanks, thanks. Did not “get” it, made it. Well, let’s put “made” in quotes, too, as it’s a blatant mash-up based on pre-existing art:
I used anonflagoriginal.svg from deltadesu as background, cut out Joyce from Willis’ Sweater vests! and put her on that background, cut a parts from the anon-jacket from the background to put on her shoulders and the tie to put around her neck, and completed the jacket with fill and freehand draw tools in GIMP.
I didn’t like Billie at first, but when the whole business with Ruth, and everyone ditching her company in favour of Sal, started up, I felt sorry for her. I still do. Poor lonely fish out of water. ;_;
I’ve liked Billie ever since the Roomies! days. She’s kind of an “everygirl” in a lot of ways. Just a normal, non-powered lass trying to find her way in her life. Willis has always found ways to make her fun and interesting, I say. ^^
Gah, this is what I get for coming here after watching My Little Pony clips on Youtube. I hear Pinkie Pie coming out of Joyce and Twilight out of Billie.
CONFOUND THOSE PONIES, THEY FORCE ME TO USE DIFFERENT VOICES IN MY HEAD, THEY TALK TO ME, THEY UNDERSTAND.
Step 1. Word of mouth
Step 2. People go “What? A girls’ show is COOL? Nuh uh. No way. I don’t believe it.”
Step 3. Curiosity gets the better of most people, and they watch
Step 4. ???
Step 5. PROFIT
If there’s sufficient fandom I’ll check out anything. Play touhou because I saw one too many fan vids. Play Phoenix Wright because it was popping up on halolz a bunch. Watch Haruhi because it had an excessive number of motivational posters. Watch ponies because I saw a shitload of fanart and music videos.
Wouldn’t matter what the next big thing was, I’d partake in order to stay in the loop, though I do love ponies. It’s just a quality children’s cartoon. Can’t believe I almost missed it because of a demographic label. Really, none of the children’s cartoons are meant for a twenty-something year old male, doesn’t mean I don’t watch them.
It’s usually word of mouth with me, or something or whatever. I’ve known about Doctor Who since forever (My first experience with it was in a book my grandparents had, had stuff to do with science I think), but it wasn’t until Linkara talked about it I decided to really get into it.
I’m with you Chrisby, Roz is the only really unlikeable character I can think of, but i think that’s by design. I hated what she did to poor jacob, he was slowly becoming a favorite of mine, i hope he comes back or appears in DOA
Yeah, Roz I can’t stand. It wasn’t so much that she took advantage of Jacob, it was her lecturing him afterwards. I’d liked her well enough up to that point, as she brought out a different side of Robin.
I might eventually, but Ruth and Joyce have both done things to piss me off in the short term towards their characters. And Sal hasn’t done enough to make me like her yet. I liked all these characters in the Walkyverse! continuities, so I’m hoping Willis makes them more sympathetic in the future, but for me at least they’re not there yet.
I like everyone, and Faz was awesome in his early appearances. Later he became some kind of weird useless perverted punching bag who’s every line seems designed to make him unlikeable, but he was a genuinely manipulative bastard with goals in the beginning. Even now he’s entertaining as the gag fodder he’s intended to be.
Heck, Billy’s the one I like to criticize, and even she’s a fun character. Real easy to criticize when I’m near delirious from unsleep, or excessively bitter and angry, but I love her none the less. Her situation is remarkably similar to Joyce’s actually. They both are just having an impossible time adjusting to this new environment.
Now I’m picturing Billy drinking as she gripes about the college experience with Joyce who is behaving similarly and commiserating but with a juicebox. It is adorable. That has to be what causes Billie to warm up to her.
I like them all. Including Faz and Roz. Maybe not as real people sometimes (when I think about their actions that way which is kind of rare), but as characters, I don’t really dislike any of them.
I do! I love all the characters in their own unique way! I love the way they can all contribute to the overall story. I wish some characters got a little bit more development but we’re still in the beginning of the story, I can be patient.
I like Joyce when she isn’t harping on religion. When her world gets shattered, however, it is awesomely hilarious.
I like Walky, no problems there. Joe is Joe. Billie, when she’s not uper her butt about her popularity, is hard to hate when Ruth is being ebil. And this world’s Ruth I’ve yet to like.
My undergraduate dorm was set up with two bedrooms sharing a bathroom (toilet, sink, shower), each bedroom for 2 people, and also sharing a living room / study area in front. Each bedroom also had a closet and the beds had drawers under them.
(The women’s dorm, on the other hand, had regular beds which you could hide under, which I had to do many times when I was there after there were not supposed to be any men present.)
I saw it more as a parroting type thing. She can mimic the face, but doesn’t have any real comprehension re: what it implies about Sarah’s feelings about her. She just knows that’s the face Sarah makes.
I was thinking Robin would be one of those annoying, overly perky RAs who try really fucking hard to be your best friend, but really they just piss you off
i see Robin more in the role of a childish instructor, but i would almost rather see her as a student. i don’t think she’ll be as fast/energetic since most of that was alien stuff, but i do imagine she’ll do something in the track & field or Cadbury-Sci area(s).
How ’bout we drop the rest of the strip and just focus on cute girls doing cute everyday things from here on Just like any four-panel shoujo comedy manga. xD These two last strips were so sweet.
Gotta love Joyce’s honesty and seriousness about a silly face in this strip, and gotta love Billie’s, um…glasses? (lol.) Probably the glasses. Y’know, Billie’s really been shining thanks to DoA. I didn’t much care for her in Roomies, and she was just another bongoy side character in Walky! But her dedication to stay on the top of the social heap (which actually betrays a lot of social awareness, and which I can respect her for) paired with an ability to interact meaningfully with “uncool” characters regardless (which is pretty much everyone else in the strip) makes her a wonderfully adorable creature. People with different goals and personalities who are still able to act as friends is what makes a college comic a nostalgic/wish fulfillment experience after all.
I don’t hate any characters. There are a couple I find a bit boring (Ethan, for some reason, I’ve always found boring. Maybe he’s too likable for my tastes! Mike IS my favorite, after all….) but other than that I just enjoy the ride and don’t worry too much about which character somehow isn’t a perfect enough person for my high and mighty tastes.
I just thought of something from the Joyce and Walky webcomic head alien said he was going from universe to universe killing all the joyce and walky’s does that mean he will eventually show up here too?
That looks about right.
Best way to judge a person’s character, the face they make when you meet them, as interpreted by other people.
I love Billie’s expression in that last panel.
You mean on her faaaaaaaaaaaace?
Woohoo, faaaace joke in 4 posts. A new record, good job you.
It’s like he’s trying to give us a Joyce avatar gallery for filling out our various crazy hyper-religious livejournal themes or something. Current Mood: Nonplussed.
Pretty soon we’ll all be Joyce. I’m not sure if this is good or not.
We are Joyce, and we are legion.
And that face only makes it the comment awesome….and a little creepy
We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.
Us and our FAAAAAAACE.
With my peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeniiiiiiiiiiii…
That one’s getting old. Really old. It’s like totally, soo 2006. Which, if the archives can be believed, came right after the 80ies … um … were brought back. Yes.
Meh, meant to link to Drunk.
where did u get that gravetar its awsome.
Like the result? Get it in higher resolution!
We are borg. You shall be joyce-assimilated.
My interpretation of the smudge on her mouth isn’t toothpaste! And that makes the expression all the better.
That isn’t toothpaste.
Your comment is sick, twisted and awesome.
And now I shall immediately get to work on that. I shall inform people when I am done.
(No, seriously. I’m gonna do it.)
Joyce makes that expression look so cute.
Hmm, Billie and Sarah… this could be fun.
Exactly my thoughts!! Joyce really does make that expression look cute!
rule of thumb: if someone stares disaprovingly at joyce, they can’t be all bad
Oh, I get it now! This entire comic exists just so you can find a use for the hundreds of crazy Joyce faces you drew! I read your book, Willis!
Willis you magnificent bastard?
I think this is the most I’ve liked Billie all comic so far.
Same. It’s fun when she’s not being a total bongo.
I didn’t like Billie at first, but when the whole business with Ruth, and everyone ditching her company in favour of Sal, started up, I felt sorry for her. I still do. Poor lonely fish out of water. ;_;
I’ve liked Billie ever since the Roomies! days. She’s kind of an “everygirl” in a lot of ways. Just a normal, non-powered lass trying to find her way in her life. Willis has always found ways to make her fun and interesting, I say. ^^
I really liked her when she punched Ruth in the face.
In the FAAAAAAAACE!
With her penis.
For a nickel.
I love Joyce’s mimic of her roomate
OH Joyce…^ ^;;; you DO have that effect on people…
Gah, this is what I get for coming here after watching My Little Pony clips on Youtube. I hear Pinkie Pie coming out of Joyce and Twilight out of Billie.
CONFOUND THOSE PONIES, THEY FORCE ME TO USE DIFFERENT VOICES IN MY HEAD, THEY TALK TO ME, THEY UNDERSTAND.
…carry on.
Pinkie Pie is Joyce?? Sure if Joyce were a hyper active Amish girl….
Well, given how Joyce can be a bit of a Cuckoo Cloudlander when she’s not being preachy, I think she’s exhibitting some Pinkie attitudes here.
When I read SP, I always imagine Robin sounding a bit like Pinkie. Same basic personality.
Pinkie Pie has a lesbian? And is a congresswoman? And gives off a constant high? Maybe I should start watching MLP.
Billie’s more Trixie than Twilight.
Yeah Sarah is more Twilight than Billie.
Dammit, now I’M going to hear the cast as ponies!
Ha, I won’t, because I have no idea who or what the hell yall be kertalkin about!
Seriously, why are there so many 20-something webcomic readers watching My Little Pony?
my thoughts exactly.
You sir, deserve a prize.
Here is a golden cookie. You can’t eat it (it’s gold.), but it’s shiny.
Is this a good place to mention that I watch Pretty Cure, and I am a fourty plus male? however, in my defence, I do heckle the show on occasion.
1. Twilight=Sarah
2. Pinkie Pie=Joyce
3. Apple Jack=Sal
4. Rarity=Billie
5. Fluttershy=Dina
6. Rainbow Dash=Amazigirl
Somebody needs to make a vid of Joyce singing all of Pinkie Pie’s songs.
Cannot unhear.
Walky’s going to be read as Spike, I can already tell you.
So… Is there anybody else who actually likes all the characters, in their own unique way?
Coz I’m starting to suspect I’m alone.
Surprisingly….there’s not really anyone I dislike in DoA, at least not yet. It’s an interesting group to say the least.
In SP! I’m not really a fan of Roz, but that’s about it.
I’m with you Chrisby, Roz is the only really unlikeable character I can think of, but i think that’s by design. I hated what she did to poor jacob, he was slowly becoming a favorite of mine, i hope he comes back or appears in DOA
That was in a different universe though…
Yeah, Roz I can’t stand. It wasn’t so much that she took advantage of Jacob, it was her lecturing him afterwards. I’d liked her well enough up to that point, as she brought out a different side of Robin.
I like most of them, except maybe Ethan. His interesting in Joyce seems out of place. Maybe I’d like him better if he was gay.
*sigh*
Ethan is gay.
This has been established repeatedly. There’s even a helpful little newsdoiley on the main page that says so.
Your sarcasm detector is broken, Henry.
Wow, a sarcasm detector. That’s really useful.
Wait, was that sarcasm too? Is it really broken?
Aaah. *head-asplode*
It’s definitely not broken.
I do as well, so you’re not alone.
I like them all!
I like most of them.
Not too crazy about Ruth. At first she was the girl I liked to hate. But then she went from villainous in a cartoon-y way to power abusing jerkwad.
There’s no one I dislike… except Faz. Faz can die. But he hasn’t shown up here yet.

Now I’m picturing Billy drinking as she gripes about the college experience with Joyce who is behaving similarly and commiserating but with a juicebox. It is adorable. That has to be what causes Billie to warm up to her.
Why must you wish such harm on Faz? Faz is awesome…

I like Walky, no problems there. Joe is Joe. Billie, when she’s not uper her butt about her popularity, is hard to hate when Ruth is being ebil. And this world’s Ruth I’ve yet to like.
There’s nobody else I full-out despise.
Okay, sorry for having a dirty mind, but toothpaste on the side of Joyce’s mouth looked like something else for a moment.
cruncher3019 had the same thought.
So… who is going to make a gravatar of Joyce’s serious face?
You rang?
All we need is an angry face, druken face and a weepy face gravatar and we are set.
http://www.dumbingofage.com/2011/comic/book-1/04-the-bechdel-test/serious/ i supply 4 angry faces!
@Plasma Mongoose
you’re gravatar reminds me of bloody Gir (from Invader Zim subliminal images), with those eyes
I think yours wins…. *steals and covets it with PSL*
 ima ride this rollercoatser until it crashes also for billie
keep investing on those acting classes, Joyce!
That expression sums it all up.
And Plasma Mongoose, that is the coolest avatar ever!
Danke!
Joyce, shockingly self aware of her effect on another person? I’m uhh shocked.
Appropriate avatar is appropriate.
I saw it more as a parroting type thing. She can mimic the face, but doesn’t have any real comprehension re: what it implies about Sarah’s feelings about her. She just knows that’s the face Sarah makes.
It could be either one. Truly, the mind of Joyce is a veiled mystery.
To be fair, that’s the face Sarah makes when confronted with most people.
People, situations, ideological concepts It’s just not a hard face to trigger.
They’re both just so adorable today. Joyce with her innocence and Billie with her discomfort. Awesome.
Billie, who told you to end a sentence with a preposition?
So… Where’s Robin in this universe? I don’t think we’ve seen her yet…
I see her as being a fitness instructor <_<
I was thinking Robin would be one of those annoying, overly perky RAs who try really fucking hard to be your best friend, but really they just piss you off
Or else the person who makes the RA’s life a living hell with her shenanigans.
Ah, shenanigans.
I swear to God I’ll pistol-whip the next guy that says “Shenanigans”.
I have a pistol-whipping fetish. Shenanigans.
*Pistol-whips*
Well, that’s my good deed for today.
“Hey Farva, what’s the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy shit on the walls and the mozzarella sticks?”
“you mean Shenanigans?”
^^ couldn’t resist
i see Robin more in the role of a childish instructor, but i would almost rather see her as a student. i don’t think she’ll be as fast/energetic since most of that was alien stuff, but i do imagine she’ll do something in the track & field or Cadbury-Sci area(s).

you are a mattress
*follops*
You sir, are awesome.
First I was like: [panel 2].
Then I was like: [Panel 5]
I don’t hate any characters. There are a couple I find a bit boring (Ethan, for some reason, I’ve always found boring. Maybe he’s too likable for my tastes! Mike IS my favorite, after all….) but other than that I just enjoy the ride and don’t worry too much about which character somehow isn’t a perfect enough person for my high and mighty tastes.
All I can think is that the first panel could easily, EASILY be made more interesting with some simple photoshop work.
I’d like to say ,”That doesn’t look like toothpaste on her lips.” But the confines of Joyce’s character make that impossible to imagine in my head.
This webcomic should be renamed “Expressions of Age”
something less stupid sounding would also be fine
Dumbing of Expressions?
I just thought of something from the Joyce and Walky webcomic head alien said he was going from universe to universe killing all the joyce and walky’s does that mean he will eventually show up here too?
also wheres the head alien of this universe anyway id laugh if he was like a teacher or something.
He’s a cartoon character. Same with Monkey Master.
Yeah, THAT turning up didn’t go as expected.
Er…Joyce? You got a little shmootz above your lip there….
