Nerp. Despite Leo being my fav Renaissance perp, Raphael is totes the best turtle. Good on his own or in the team, the only one who stuck with the original red colour scheme, and by far the biggest sass- master of the lot of ’em.
Of the big three monster cereals Count Chocula is indeed the most meh. It was true when I was a kid in the ’80s and it was true last time I tried some in ’03.
That said, ’80s formulation Yummy Mummy was the best flavor in this line I ever tried and ’70s formulation Fruit Brute is the one that, on paper, sounds most appealing, but both have failed within a few years of introduction whenever brought back because the big three cover the primary US sweet breakfast flavors (chocolate, strawberry and blueberry) and anything more is too niche for a seasonal product.
When I was a kid we couldn’t buy it any time of the year, because I was in high school before they came out and I was “too old” for monster cereals. I never had any until my kids bought me some a few years ago. And yes, I’m old get off my lawn yadda yadda yadda.
And since they were in B&W there was less need to worry about the censors with all the blood and guts being spilled.
Also the Palladium rpg based on the turtle was amazing if a “little” imbalanced in team play as depicted in the first edition.
The best TMNT was the series published by Archie Comics. It went everywhere and was amazing. It also featured a dimension hopping intelligent mounted cow head that was super friendly and got you where you need to go by ingesting you first. And they also meet the super creepy Sons of Silence in the middle of an intergalactic war.
If we’re bringing live action adaptions into the mix, I think we ALL know the the standout far-and-away absolute worst. Heck I probably don’t need to even say what it is it’s so clearly the worst. Well I’ll say it any way. Shyamalan’s ATILA.
The first attempt was Venus De Milo in the Next Mutation, I know a little more about her since she was very poorly received and it is easy to find hate rants about her. But to be fair, the entirety of Next Mutation was a mess, so it’s not like the other turtles were any better in it.
Artemisia would be my pick! I love her SO much! And she went through a lot, so to be honored with a TMNT that kicks butt would a very good honor. I also know she was be very good with detail, the turtle version, they could use that.
I mean, the name is very clunky, but I find the overall concept pretty cool. She was originally an important side character as a human and ninja but was turned into a turtle in order to save her life from what I understand.
Since I’m a huge fan of all things TMNT (especially the flawed, but nostalgic 1987 cartoon and its brilliant voice cast *glares ninja daggers at Mr D*), I can tell you a bit more about Jennika (not as much as I’d like, because sadly, I haven’t gotten to read much of the IDW series).
Jennika was introduced as a human member of the Foot Clan who eventually became an ally to the Turtles. After getting critically injured in battle, Leonardo gave her a life-saving blood transfusion. She lived, but mutated into a turtle (Which sounds curiously like the origin of She-Hulk). Now sporting a yellow bandana and wielding both some wrist claws and a bow and arrow, Jennika has become athe fifth turtle.
She’s generally gotten a positive reception; she answers the question, “What if Venus DeMilo DIDN’T have terrible writers?” She was created by longtime fan and transwoman artist Sophie Campbell, who became the head writer on the IDW series. She had actually written and drawn a TMNT fancomic some years ago, featuring a “proto-Jennika” – another attempt at a fifth, girl turtle. I follow Sophie on Twitter, and so should you!
Oh, and fun factoid: There’s actually been another fifth, girl Turtle besides Jennika and Venus. In the Archie Comics TMNT series, franchise staple April O’Neil was briefly mutated into a Turtle for one issue (and wore a white bandana)!

Nah, personalities don’t line up. Leo wasn’t as brash as Naruto, Donatello isn’t as quiet as Shino, Raphael really isn’t as emo as Sasuke and has less overall issues, and Mikey isn’t as clever and is more excitable than Shikamaru.
Perfect timing narratively – now that everyone else is introduced (or, for long time fans, reintroduced) we will get to the introductory backstory of Booster.

In college the first time I lived at home and commuted. There were my teachers and random classmates, there was the science fiction crowd (including the dormys, four girls who shared a dorm room), the chess crowd, the math/occult crowd (from which I learned to intentionally hear voices that weren’t there, which is actually pretty cool except for the absence of an off switch). The science fiction crowd became lifelong friends and the rest dropped away.
Grad school was different. I was older and grad students in the Computer Science department were a much smaller universe. i had a tendency to work late into the night when the machines were clear and there was no one around but me and the asian students, so I probably got to know them best.
My standards have dropped to “isn’t actively promoting policies that are trying to get me killed”. There are many on the Republican side who are actively trying to kill me in one way or another.
Pretty much. I can deal with ‘passively trying to get me killed.’ Passively trying to get me killed, I can at least throw off-guard by saying frankly ‘your policy will kill me.’ The active ones don’t give enough of a shit and can immediately shrug it off as overreaction/fake news.
Dorothy already has the politician mindset down pat. “Tell me about yourself” — and of course people will, because deep down, don’t we all want to talk about ourselves? It will also make you subconsciously favor the politician, since he/she was concerned (or at least seemed to be concerned) about you.
In the meantime, this also frees the politician from having to talk about THEMSELVES …. and they can also assess your response for the potential of its being able to be used for their benefit at some point in the future.
I’m hoping Dorothy doesn’t become one of the many politicians in this country who spout lots of empty platitudes but seem to support no actual policies.

God i love this franchise but while its weird to the max it climbs up to that weird.

He is not only a Ninja, he is also an inventor and he invent all of the stuff And I want to be an inventor too, so of course he is the best Turtle. Dorothy continues to be my favorite! Though Joyce has always given her a run for the money, and Booster has become a strong contender in only a half dozen or so comics. Yes, please, more of these three!
My deep dark secret I must keep hidden from everyone is that I like IDW TMNT more than IDW’s Transformers, even MTMTE, thought it helps that the current Transformers series is kind of a snoozefest.
It’s like the perfect expression of TMNT. Taking every idea they’ve ever had and cramming them all into one universe where you get to show how infinitely adaptable the turtles really are. One minute they’re Frank Millering it up fighting ninjas in the gritty streets of New York, the next they’re teleported into another dimension and enter a pro wrestling tournament. They can do pretty much any kind of story in any kind of tone and never skip a beat, and there’s genuine weight and consequence to the character’s actions in a way that’s never really been explored for the series, especially with how they’ve chosen to write Splinter’s character in probably his best incarnation yet.
I’ve REALLY fallen off the TMNT bandwagon. I watched the 1990’s series, read some of the older TMNT comics and watched some of the movies (including the Michael Bay movies that, if I’m being honest, I actually enjoyed), but I haven’t followed any of the subsequent animated series.

IDW TMNT is, no joke, my favourite ongoing comic at the moment, though the reading order is hella messy thanks to constant miniseries overlapping with the ongoing. Fortunately they’ve put out omnibus editions in reading order that are dirt cheap on Comixology.
Years ago in another lifetime, I worked in the same town as TMNT creators Eastman & Laird while their characters were just on the cusp of taking off. I am way behind the times in knowing who today’s cast of players is, but those old B&W books are still a pissah to flip thru.
Though I vaguely remember my kids watching some cartoon about pizza eating turtles. That’s just silly. Turtles are known for their time traveling adventures.
In Joyce’s defence, the best move she could make as a person was not asking Booster about themselves, because all of her questions were bad. I’d give her a point or two for at least recognizing that.

The second attempt to introduce a female ninja turtle into the franchise, so far has only appeared in the comics series to my knowledge.
That made me throw up a little in my mouth.

The first attempt was Venus De Milo in the Next Mutation, I know a little more about her since she was very poorly received and it is easy to find hate rants about her. But to be fair, the entirety of Next Mutation was a mess, so it’s not like the other turtles were any better in it.

I think it’d be neat for a story to explore the turtles having a sister. There’s Renaissance artists who’d be good – like Sofonisba or Artemisia.
Artemisia would be my pick! I love her SO much! And she went through a lot, so to be honored with a TMNT that kicks butt would a very good honor. I also know she was be very good with detail, the turtle version, they could use that.

I mean, the name is very clunky, but I find the overall concept pretty cool. She was originally an important side character as a human and ninja but was turned into a turtle in order to save her life from what I understand.

Since I’m a huge fan of all things TMNT (especially the flawed, but nostalgic 1987 cartoon and its brilliant voice cast *glares ninja daggers at Mr D*), I can tell you a bit more about Jennika (not as much as I’d like, because sadly, I haven’t gotten to read much of the IDW series).
Jennika was introduced as a human member of the Foot Clan who eventually became an ally to the Turtles. After getting critically injured in battle, Leonardo gave her a life-saving blood transfusion. She lived, but mutated into a turtle (Which sounds curiously like the origin of She-Hulk). Now sporting a yellow bandana and wielding both some wrist claws and a bow and arrow, Jennika has become athe fifth turtle.
She’s generally gotten a positive reception; she answers the question, “What if Venus DeMilo DIDN’T have terrible writers?” She was created by longtime fan and transwoman artist Sophie Campbell, who became the head writer on the IDW series. She had actually written and drawn a TMNT fancomic some years ago, featuring a “proto-Jennika” – another attempt at a fifth, girl turtle. I follow Sophie on Twitter, and so should you!
Oh, and fun factoid: There’s actually been another fifth, girl Turtle besides Jennika and Venus. In the Archie Comics TMNT series, franchise staple April O’Neil was briefly mutated into a Turtle for one issue (and wore a white bandana)!

Joyce also explicitly decided not to ask her other questions because it was apparent Booster didn’t want her to. She’s halfway there twice; that’s sort of like being there.
Or maybe three quarters of the way there; halfway and then half again. But she’ll never quite get there, because she’s Zeno’s Joyce.
Joyce’s other questions were probably so she could explore the concept of someone being non-binary, not ‘getting to know you’ questions about Booster specifically. That lines up with their disdain for being a specimen for examination, but she still could’ve asked like Dorothy did.
We do need to learn more about Booster.

Nah, personalities don’t line up. Leo wasn’t as brash as Naruto, Donatello isn’t as quiet as Shino, Raphael really isn’t as emo as Sasuke and has less overall issues, and Mikey isn’t as clever and is more excitable than Shikamaru.

I know the names of the four main ones, and that they’re named after Renaissance artists. That’s about it.

Honestly I didn’t know anything about most people who lived in my dorm hall who weren’t my friends or roommates. Like I could recognize people who lived in the same building but that was it

In college the first time I lived at home and commuted. There were my teachers and random classmates, there was the science fiction crowd (including the dormys, four girls who shared a dorm room), the chess crowd, the math/occult crowd (from which I learned to intentionally hear voices that weren’t there, which is actually pretty cool except for the absence of an off switch). The science fiction crowd became lifelong friends and the rest dropped away.
Grad school was different. I was older and grad students in the Computer Science department were a much smaller universe. i had a tendency to work late into the night when the machines were clear and there was no one around but me and the asian students, so I probably got to know them best.

Dorothy already has the politician mindset down pat. “Tell me about yourself” — and of course people will, because deep down, don’t we all want to talk about ourselves? It will also make you subconsciously favor the politician, since he/she was concerned (or at least seemed to be concerned) about you.
In the meantime, this also frees the politician from having to talk about THEMSELVES …. and they can also assess your response for the potential of its being able to be used for their benefit at some point in the future.

God i love this franchise but while its weird to the max it climbs up to that weird.
-It has for such a rebooted show and comic, structurere and respect for the fans…power growth, chacter consistence…and mistakes we all hope they dont repeate and things we hope they dont forget…and while the new show had really good animation it had really urcsome mistakes just like the bay films…Mistakes like adding turtles were in the live action show , in some comics and fan productions.

My deep dark secret I must keep hidden from everyone is that I like IDW TMNT more than IDW’s Transformers, even MTMTE, thought it helps that the current Transformers series is kind of a snoozefest.
It’s like the perfect expression of TMNT. Taking every idea they’ve ever had and cramming them all into one universe where you get to show how infinitely adaptable the turtles really are. One minute they’re Frank Millering it up fighting ninjas in the gritty streets of New York, the next they’re teleported into another dimension and enter a pro wrestling tournament. They can do pretty much any kind of story in any kind of tone and never skip a beat, and there’s genuine weight and consequence to the character’s actions in a way that’s never really been explored for the series, especially with how they’ve chosen to write Splinter’s character in probably his best incarnation yet.
I’ve REALLY fallen off the TMNT bandwagon. I watched the 1990’s series, read some of the older TMNT comics and watched some of the movies (including the Michael Bay movies that, if I’m being honest, I actually enjoyed), but I haven’t followed any of the subsequent animated series.

IDW TMNT is, no joke, my favourite ongoing comic at the moment, though the reading order is hella messy thanks to constant miniseries overlapping with the ongoing. Fortunately they’ve put out omnibus editions in reading order that are dirt cheap on Comixology.
Years ago in another lifetime, I worked in the same town as TMNT creators Eastman & Laird while their characters were just on the cusp of taking off. I am way behind the times in knowing who today’s cast of players is, but those old B&W books are still a pissah to flip thru.
